Yeduguri Sandinti Jagan Mohan Reddy is the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the President of the YSR Congress Party. Known for his compassionate leadership and people-focused governance, he served as CM from 2019 to 2024. During his tenure, he introduced bold reforms and welfare schemes that transformed millions of lives.

He continues to be a strong voice for the people and is dedicated to building a better future for Andhra Pradesh.

Early Life and Inspiration

Jagan Mohan Reddy was born on December 21, 1972, in Pulivendula, Kadapa district. He is the son of Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), a legendary leader and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan completed his education in Hyderabad and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Inspired by his father’s legacy of service, Jagan grew up with strong values of compassion, social justice, and responsibility toward the underprivileged.

The Beginning of Jagan Mohan Reddy Political Career

Jagan entered active politics in 2009, following the passing of his father. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Kadapa, showing strong support from the people even at the start of his career.

In 2011, facing political differences, he founded the YSR Congress Party. This marked the beginning of a bold and independent political path, with a clear mission: to serve the people of Andhra Pradesh without compromise.

Praja Sankalpa Yatra. A Journey of Trust

In November 2017, Jagan launched the Praja Sankalpa Yatra, a massive padayatra (foot march) covering 3,648 kilometers across all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Over 341 days, he personally met with lakhs of people, listened to their problems, and gave them hope.

This journey was not just political—it was emotional, powerful, and historic. It laid the foundation for the massive public trust that led to his 2019 electoral victory.

Serving as Chief Minister – 2019 to 2024

In May 2019, Jagan Mohan Reddy became the 17th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, following a record-breaking victory in the Assembly elections. His party, YSR Congress, won 151 out of 175 seats, one of the biggest wins in the state’s history.

As CM, he focused on welfare, transparency, and inclusive development. His leadership was centered on the belief that government should serve the common man with dignity and fairness.

Beyond Power A Leader Still Connected

Though no longer in office, Jagan continues to lead the YSR Congress Party and stays closely connected with the people. He remains a strong voice in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape, standing up for social justice and economic progress.

Jagan believes leadership does not end with a term. It continues with responsibility, accountability, and service.

Amma Vodi

This flagship scheme provides ₹15,000 per year directly to mothers or guardians who send their children to school. It supports students from Class 1 to Intermediate (12th) studying in both government and private recognized schools. The aim is to reduce the dropout rate and promote education among poor families. The money helps cover expenses like school fees, books, uniforms, and transport.

YSR Rythu Bharosa

Under this scheme, each eligible farmer receives ₹13,500 per year as financial assistance to meet their agricultural needs. This amount is given in three installments and is provided even to tenant farmers. It helps cover costs of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and labor. The goal is to ensure that farmers don’t fall into debt and can carry out their farming activities smoothly.

YSR Aarogyasri

YSR Aarogyasri offers free, high-quality medical treatment to poor and low-income families. It covers treatment for over 2,000 serious health conditions at government and empaneled private hospitals. If the hospital bill exceeds ₹1,000, the entire cost is borne by the government. The scheme also includes free follow-up care, transportation, and medicines, ensuring healthcare access for all.

YSR Housing

This scheme provides free houses to people from economically weaker sections. The houses are built by the government and include essential amenities like toilets, electricity, and drinking water. The initiative aims to eliminate homelessness, improve living conditions, and promote dignity among the poor, especially women-headed households.

YSR Pension Kanuka

This scheme provides monthly pensions to senior citizens, disabled people, widows, weavers, transgenders, and others in need. The pension amount ranges from ₹2,250 to ₹10,000, depending on the category. It offers financial security and dignity to people who are unable to work and depend on others for survival.

Jagananna Vidya Deevena

A complete tuition fee reimbursement scheme for students from economically backward families. The fee is paid directly into the mother’s bank account in four installments during the academic year. It covers tuition, exam, lab, and special fees. The goal is to ensure that no child drops out of college due to financial issues and to encourage higher education among youth.

Village and Ward Secretariats

To improve governance at the grassroots level, the government established secretariats in every village and ward. These act as one-stop centers for all public services, like applying for ration cards, pensions, land records, and welfare schemes. Trained staff called Village and Ward Volunteers help citizens with fast and transparent services, bringing governance closer to people.

English Medium Education

All government schools in Andhra Pradesh now offer English medium education from Class 1 onwards, while also teaching Telugu as a compulsory subject. The aim is to improve communication skills, boost confidence in students, and make them more competitive for future job opportunities. The government also provides tabs for students, digital classrooms, and bilingual textbooks to support this initiative.

YSR Cheyutha & Asara

These two schemes empower women, especially those belonging to SC, ST, BC, and minority communities:

  • YSR Cheyutha provides ₹75,000 over four years (₹18,750 per year) to women aged 45–60 years, to support their livelihood and help them start or grow small businesses.

  • YSR Asara repays outstanding loans taken by women from self-help groups (SHGs), helping them restart financial activities without burden.
